When you’re on vacation losing weight can seem impossible; you want to enjoy your time and be able to indulge in the cuisine of the area you’re visiting. We know you don’t want to give up everything you’ve worked so hard for in your weight loss journey, but you still want to have a good vacation. Instead of focusing on losing weight, we encourage you to simply focus on maintaining your weight. Here are 3 methods you can use to help maintain your weight on vacation, but still treat yourself to the delicious meals you’re craving:

1. Food Tracking: There are many mobile apps out there that make tracking your meals simple. Apps like MyFitnessPal do a great job of helping users track their food you can scan bar-codes or type in the food you’re looking for to see all the nutritional information – everything from calories to vitamins. Whether you decided to track your food via app or by writing calories down on a notepad, food tracking can help make you more aware of how much you’re eating and eliminate mindless snacking. If you do need a snack between meals, check out some of these healthy summertime snacks.

2. Planning Ahead: Just like you’ve planned where you’re staying on vacation and your daily activities, plan your meals. Most restaurants have their menus posted online and, if you’re lucky, the nutritional information. Before leaving on vacation, look these up and calculate your calories for each meal to plan your day. If you know that you’ll be able to eat something a little healthier for dinner one day, treat yourself to that burger you’ve been craving for lunch!

3. Planned Chaos: This method sounds both wonderful and terrible at the same time. Planned chaos entails eating exactly as you would when you’re home (Pack your Medifast meals!) every day of your vacation except one. On that one glorious day, which some call a “cheat day,” you allow yourself to indulge in all of the delicious food you’ve been craving on your vacation. This one can be a little tricky because sometimes it’s difficult to stick to your meal plan on vacation, but that one day could be well worth it!
